Well if you’re Norwegian, you better start cramming up on your knowledge of Black Metal  Satanist music.  As recently reported by AFP here, the Norwegian Diplomatic Academy has introduced teaching about this genre as part of its curriculum, as a means to graduate diplomatic envoys knowledgeable of all parts of Norwegian culture.  

The report says that Norway has identified fans in Italy, Japan and France trying to learn the language in order to understand the lyrics of songs by groups like Mayhem, Darkthrone, Satyricon, Emperor, Enslaved, Burzum, Dimmu Borgir and Gorgoroth (yeah, I’ve never heard of any of them either).  This has caused the foreign affairs community to consider the music as a means to spread and promote Norwegian culture.
